"Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning: great is your faithfulness...The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him." Lamentations 3:21-25 NIV

When my husband, Lowell, was diagnosed with cancer, I found that the frightening word, cancer, consumed my thoughts. As a result, the color in my life began to disappear. Perhaps you have had a situation of some sort that has taken the color out of your life for a time as well.

But when we begin to trust God each morning, while pondering God's great love and compassion for us, it brings us to hope, just as it did for the writer of Lamentations. It is then that we hear the birds sing and see the beautiful colors in seasonal flowers. Great is God's faithfulness.

I see the butterfly as a gift from God, as a symbol of hope, yellow and golden like the sun/Son to remind us that God is with us when we seek him during troubling and worrisome times. May we always remember that the butterfly is near, just waiting to be found.
